Eye Vision Problems

Eye and Vision Problems Seen by Our Wichita Optometrists

Wichita Optometrists, Eye and Vision Problems

You can trust our optometrists at Wichita Optometry, P.A. to help you with a wide range of eye and vision problems. These include:

  • Cataracts - Cataracts are an extremely common effect of aging, although they can be associated with specific health problems or medications as well. The clear lens of the eye gradually becomes opaque and yellowish, causing poor vision, halos around bright objects and possibly even blindness. Fortunately, cataracts can be surgically removed and replaced with intraocular implants. We can provide pre-operative and post-operative care for this procedure.
  • Macular degeneration - The macula, the part of the retina that provides central vision, can suffer from progressive age-related degeneration often related to an overgrowth of blood vessels in the eye. Retinal examinations reveal macular degeneration in time for us to refer you to a specialist who can administer injections to slow the progression of the disease at an early stage.
  • Glaucoma - Glaucoma is a collection of eye conditions which will progressively damage the optic nerve, resulting in loss of vision. The optic nerve is a million single nerve fibers bundled together to transmit visual signals from the eye to the brain. A testing method called tonometry lets us know whether you require treatment for glaucoma.
  • Diabetic Retinopathy - Diabetes can cause blood vessel failure, overgrowth and blood leakage in the retina of the eye, a condition known as diabetic retinopathy. You might notice an increase in "flashers" and "floaters," or you might receive no warnings of retinal destruction at all. Regular retinal examination with pupil dilation allows us to spot this problem in time for you to get that undetected diabetes under control.
  • Refractive Errors - Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism are all different kinds for refractive errors, a problem with the way the eye refracts incoming light. Nearsightedness and farsightedness may result from an abnormal eyeball shape or corneal shape, while astigmatism is an irregularity in corneal contour. Routine vision testing enables us to correct for these issues.
  • Dry eye syndrome - Dry eyes and/or red eyes can stem from too many hours spent in front of the computer monitor (which promotes infrequent blinking), environmental irritation, specific medications or a problem with your tear production or consistency. Our eye doctor may recommend a variety of solutions, from eye drops to lifestyle changes, to relieve and protect your dry eyes.
  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye) - Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is an inflammation of a normally invisible membrane called the conjunctiva attached to the eyelid and "white" of the eye. Some forms of conjunctivitis are highly contagious infections, while other forms are caused by allergies or other irritants. It's important to see an optometrist right away if you want to prevent possible complications such as corneal damage.
