Lipiflow Dry Eye Treatment

Lipiflow Dry Eye Treatment

There are different treatment options for dry eyes, including eye drops, medication, and surgery. One popular method is through LipiFlow, a non-drug treatment that focuses on rehydrating your eyes. LipiFlow is a therapeutic tool that applies pressure to the eyelids. This pressure removes any clogged or obstructed pathways in your vessels, creating a healthy flow of oil production for the eyes.

What is Dry Eye Syndrome?

Dry eyes, also known as dry eye syndrome (DES) or keratoconjunctivitis (KCS), is a somewhat common health problem that plagues many Americans. Dry eyes are often associated with other symptoms like eye irritation, discharge, redness, stinging or burning sensation, discomfort, and fatigued eyes. If you are suffering from any dry eye symptoms, it might be time to visit an eye doctor for an examination. Once a diagnosis is reached, your doctor can find an effective treatment option for dry eyes.

What are Some Symptoms of Dry Eye Syndrome?

The underlying causes of this condition include a damaged lacrimal gland, sensory denervation, congenital alacrima, rheumatoid arthritis, and collagen vascular diseases. Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a leading cause of dry eyes. MGD is frequently caused by diabetes, hormonal changes, autoimmune diseases, smoke, dry climates, and certain medications. Certain types of drugs, like antidepressants, can worsen the symptoms of dry eye syndrome.

Does LipiFlow Hurt?

According to a clinical study, recipients report little to no pain or discomfort from the heat and pressure of LipiFlow.

How Long Does LipiFlow Last?

The treatment is fairly quick, lasting about 12 minutes in an optometric clinic. The effects of hydrated eyes are expected to set in within 6 to 8 weeks. LipiFlow treatment can last up to two years, depending on how chronic the condition is.

How Much Does a LipiFlow Treatment Cost?

Expenses will depend on the optometry clinic you visit and what kind of services the visit will involve. You can expect to pay for the evaluation of your eyes as well as the LipiFlow procedure.
